At Modern Psychiatry and Wellness, we have a group of talented and caring individuals that bring their own unique experiences to our team. In Christopher Bueker’s role as a Behavior Health Clinician, he has done extraordinary work for our patients and is a crucial member of our team. We were able to sit down with him to discuss his role as a Behavior Health Clinician and why he loves working at Modern Psychiatry and Wellness.

What is Your Role?

My role as a Behavioral Health Clinician at Modern Psychiatry and Wellness is to help provide professional and therapeutic services to individuals with mental illness and addictive disorders like depression, anxiety, and emotional disorders. I provide treatment through face-to-face counseling, therapy, and other techniques to help patients cope with their mental health and addictive disorders. I have been working here since July 2021.

How Did You End Up at Modern Psych?

I have known about our very own medical director and CEO, Dr. Quinton Moss, and his work with the Genesis Program, through former patients of mine. I applied for this position last summer, and I knew that this company was the best overall fit for me. I love working for Modern Psychiatry because our team provides compassionate and individualized treatment for those who suffer from mental illness and addiction.

What is Your Educational and Career Background?

I graduated from Northern Kentucky University in 2009 with a bachelor’s degree in Psychology. I earned my Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor (LCDC) III in March of 2019. I graduated from Yoga Teacher Training in 2012 with my certificate to teach yoga and meditation. Since 2013, I have been instructing yoga asana and meditation classes at yoga studios, recreational centers, and private residences around the Cincinnati area. I have taught over 600 yoga and meditation classes since then.

You Recently Published a Book and Spoke at a Summit; Can You Tell us More About This?

From my personal and professional experience, I have intimate knowledge of recovery from pornography addiction. And I identified a need in the market, thus my book idea was born. In my book, I review the literature that links the pornography industry and human trafficking.

I worked as an exhibitor at the 2021 National Center on Sexual Exploitation’s (NCOSE) Online Coalition to End Sexual Exploitation. From my work with NCOSE, Liz Walker and I connected. Liz is an educator and advocate for Connecting to Protect. She asked me to give the presentation – Protect and Prevent Your Child from Assessing and Using Internet Pornography, where I list the steps that a therapist can teach, including protecting and preventing children from using internet pornography, engaging in self-care, and educating yourself about the harms associated with pornography.

What Do You Enjoy Most About Your Job?

Seeing our patients have that “ah-ha moment.” They realize something for the first time, and it helps them motivate them toward their goal of staying clean and living a better life. I see this a lot when I am teaching about the internal and external locus of control and motivation.

Outside of Work, What do You Enjoy Doing?

I enjoy outdoor recreation, this includes paddling on my stand-up paddleboard, longboarding, rollerblading, hiking, and running. I also enjoy spending time with my friends and loved ones.
