We recently had the opportunity to sit down with Angie Newman, a Lab Assistant at Modern Psych. Angie has been a member of our team since April 2020, bringing with her a wealth of experience and a passion for supporting the mental health and wellness of our clients. We are grateful to have Angie Newman as part of the Modern Psych team and that’s why we want to share her experience with you!

What is your role at Modern Psych and what does your job entail?

As a Lab Assistant, my primary responsibility is to work in the lab and support the testing process. One of my key tasks is to obtain urine drug screens from clients. This involves collecting the samples and carefully handling the necessary paperwork to ensure accuracy in sample identification. Once the urine drug screens are collected, I send them out for confirmation to Labcorp

What led you to work for the Modern Psych team?

I joined the Modern Psych team after the behavioral health unit at Fort Hamilton Hospital closed. I worked there for about 18 years. During this transition, I was approached and encouraged to apply at Modern Psychiatry and Wellness. Prior to that, I worked at Women’s Genesis for a year and a half.

Currently, I am based at the Hamilton location. It has been an exciting opportunity to continue using my skills and expertise in a similar field, while also being part of a dynamic and dedicated team at Modern Psych. I am grateful for the opportunity to contribute to the work we do in supporting mental health.

What is your favorite part of your job?

My favorite part of my job is the opportunity to interact and communicate with clients regularly. It brings me great satisfaction to be able to assist and support them throughout the process. Building rapport and providing instructions to clients helps ensure a positive experience for them.

I also value the collaboration with my coworkers. Being surrounded by a supportive team creates a positive work environment and allows for continuous learning and professional growth.

Together, we work towards our shared goal of providing accurate and reliable results that contribute to the overall well-being of our clients.
