At Modern Psychiatry and Wellness, we understand that our organization would be nothing without our wonderful employees. And Marilyn Bielinski is no exception. From starting as an Outpatient Supervisor for our West Chester location to her current role as the Program Manager for the Genesis and Community PH programs, she has made great strides since joining the team in May 2019. We were excited to sit down with Marilyn to discuss her role and what she looks forward to most as Modern Psychiatry and Wellness continues to grow.

What is Your Background? Career and Education?

I wanted to be a constitutional lawyer when I was younger, but I ultimately decided to help others in another way through counseling. I graduated from Miami University with two bachelor’s degrees, one in psychology and the other in family studies. I then took a year off and taught preschool before attending and completing a master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of Cincinnati.

After graduation, I worked for several years as a counselor and supervisor for Adams Recovery Center which helped me fall in love with working with clients who have substance use issues. Following that role, I then spent several years working with children and youth with Camelot Community Care. I was able to assist youth with addressing their mental health and substance use issues early with home and community services before ending my time there as a supervisor of a PH unit in Frederick Douglas Elementary School. I started at Modern Psych in May 2019 as the Outpatient Supervisor of the West Chester location before accepting a promotion as the Clinical Program Manager of the Genesis and Community PH programs.

What Made you Choose Modern Psych?

I wanted to continue to work with adults who experience behavioral health problems and continue my role as a supervisor. I have loved working at Modern Psychiatry more than any other agency because of our care and concern for our clients. As a team, everyone has a deep desire to better our services. I enjoy seeing everyone grow and supporting one another because in doing so we get to support our clients. We love seeing our clients improve, achieve their goals, and continue to live a healthy and satisfying life.

What does an Average Day for You Look Like?

Every day I wear many hats. I manage three programs and have many conversations each day with my own staff as well as the staff of other programs to ensure quality client care. I support my staff and spend significant time addressing questions and making decisions for our programs throughout the day. Some of my duties range from assisting with client crises, filling in for staff who are out sick or on PTO, and addressing clients’ wellbeing such as ensuring clients have access to winter clothing or linking them with some of our many services. I also attend meetings with our team to plan, schedule, and execute our agency’s mission of continual improvement of services for our clients and continuing to provide a comfortable and supportive workplace for our staff.

When You’re Not Working, What Do You Enjoy Doing?

I enjoy hiking, traveling, and reading. I have been fortunate enough to hike the Grand Canyon, Angel’s Landing in Zion, as well as many other National Parks in the last few years. I try to hike at least once a month and enjoy planning larger trips to be out in nature several times a year. I love to read and challenge myself to read at least a book a week—depending on how long the book is!
