Yakima Packwood joined the Modern Psychiatry and Wellness team in October 2020 as the HR Manager and was promoted to Director of Human Resources and Information Technology in 2021. Yakima is an integral part of the Modern Psychiatry and Wellness team and ensures our office is smooth sailing. We were excited to sit down with Yakima to discuss her role in more detail as well as what she enjoys most about working for Modern Psych.
What Led You to Join the Modern Psych Team?
After earning my Bachelor’s in Human Resources Management from American InterContinental University, I spent time working for organizations of all sizes in a variety of roles. From HR Analytics and Corporate Immigration to Government Reporting and Employee Relations, I have done a bit of everything. When it came time to move into the next phase of my career, I discovered that Modern Psychiatry and Wellness was offering an HR position that would allow me to develop my own department. During the interview process, I fell in love with the team and what Modern Psych offers the community.
What Does an Average Day Look Like for You?
The coolest thing about my job is that no two days are the same. Whether it is payroll processing, employee relations, new hire orientation, or government reporting, the variety of tasks keeps me busy. I also lead two different committees: the fun committee and the diversity and inclusion committee.
Do You Have a Favorite Part of Your Job?
What makes Modern Psych a wonderful place to work is our people. Our leadership team are the type of people who will eat lunch with you, listen to your ideas, and encourage change and innovation. It truly feels like my work “home” because of the bonds I have built internally and the great work we do daily. I enjoy interacting with our staff and leading my IT team!
What Do You Enjoy Doing Outside of Work?
In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my family, traveling, listening to music, and watercolor painting. One of my life goals is to swim at all 190 of Florida’s beaches. So far, I have swum at 36.
