At Modern Psych, we are thrilled to shine a spotlight on one of our exceptional Nurse Practitioners, Bernice Garrison. Bernice has been an integral part of our team for several years and her extensive experience has equipped her with the skills and expertise needed to provide exceptional care for our patients. She is a valued member of our team, and we are excited to share her story with you.
What is your role and what does it entail?
I’ve been with Modern Psych for over 4 years, and, for the past year and a half, I’ve been a nurse practitioner. When I first joined Modern Psych, I was excited to start my role as a nurse. I quickly found that the team is incredibly supportive and provided a great environment for me to learn and grow in my profession. When I finished my master’s degree, I knew I wanted to continue working at Modern Psych. The nursing team had become like a second family to me, and I wanted to stay with the company as a nurse practitioner so I could continue contributing to the great work we were doing together.
What inspired you to pursue a career in nursing?
Inspiration comes from many sources, but above all, it comes from God. As someone who believes deeply in faith and spirituality, I feel that God guides me in all aspects of my life, including my career and personal aspirations. He drives me to want more out of life and to give back more.
What led you to work at Modern Psych?
God and faith.
There have been moments in my life when I felt let down and unsure of my future. However, it was during one of these difficult times that I was given the opportunity to become a nurse at Modern Psych. Tyann, the Director of Nursing Services, took a chance on me, and I will forever be grateful for that. Working as a nurse has taught me that failure and setbacks are not signs of weakness, rather, they are necessary stepping stones on the path to success. Every challenge I have faced has helped me grow.
How would you describe Modern Psych’s culture?
What I love most about the culture of Modern Psych is the sense of community and support that exists among the employees. We are not just colleagues: we are like a family, always there to lend a hand and support, ultimately providing better care for our patients and the community.
One of the things I cherish most about my job at Modern Psych is the incredible team of colleagues that I have the pleasure of working with. I am so blessed to have a team of ladies and gents who, when I need help, a hug, or a laugh, are always there to support me.
Tell us something fun about yourself.
Fun fact: I love cars! I have always been fascinated by the design, engineering, and performance of automobiles, and I consider them true works of art.
