Could You Tell Us About Your Background?
I started my career path with a part-time job at Dairy Queen during high school, which taught me a lot about responsibility and customer service. When I went to college at the University of Cincinnati to study biology, I worked as a patient transporter at University of Cincinnati Medical Center. That experience really shaped my career direction.
It was in those moments, interacting with patients and healthcare professionals, that I realized my true passion was in healthcare. It made me want to pursue a path where I could make a meaningful difference in people’s lives, particularly in supporting their health and well-being.
What Does Your Job at Modern Psych Entail?
I am currently the Support Staff Supervisor at Modern Psych. My role involves overseeing the front desk team, as well as ensuring every client who comes through our doors is treated with respect and equality. I am committed to creating a welcoming and supportive environment, and I advocate for clients when necessary to ensure their needs are met.
In addition to managing the front desk staff, I focus on maintaining positive and effective communication with other departments, which helps keep our operations running smoothly and make sure clients receive the best possible care.
What Inspired You to Pursue This Career Path?
It isn’t really what inspired me to pursue the career I have today; it’s who inspired me. My mom began her career as an EMT and later became a nurse. Growing up, I always admired the work she did to help others, and I knew I wanted to follow in her footsteps in some way. It has been a journey to figure out what that looks like for me, but her dedication to caring for others has always been a major influence on my path.
What Led You to Modern Psych?
I was drawn to work with the Modern Psych team because my aunt is also employed here, and I had heard about all of the incredible work being done. The more I learned about the impact Modern Psych has on clients’ lives, the more inspired I became. So, when I saw an opening, I knew I had to throw my hat in the ring—it felt like the perfect opportunity to be part of something meaningful.
What is Your Favorite Part of the Job?
My favorite part of my job is witnessing the incredible transformation that takes place in our clients over time.
In the realm of mental health and addiction, progress can sometimes feel slow, but we get to watch individuals move from a place of despair to hope, and from struggling with addiction or mental health challenges to finding healthier ways to cope and live a fulfilling life. That’s the most rewarding part.
Whether it’s a client achieving a milestone in their treatment or coming into the office with a smile on their face for the first time, it reinforces why I love doing this work. I feel privileged to be a part of their journey and to see how every individual can be resilient, compassionate, and perseverant, regardless of what life has thrown at them.
